Enjoy the untamed beauty of Franklin Mountains State Park, May 2010. This is the largest urban wilderness State Park in the US, encompassing an entire mountain range in the Chihuahuan desert. The park extends north some fifteen miles from the heart of the city of El Paso to the Texas-New Mexico state line. The park provides habitat for plants such as sotol, lechuguilla, ocotillo and various yuccas as well as the rare Southwestern barrel cactus. Numerous birds, reptiles and small mammals live here, along with larger wildlife such as mule deer and an occasional mountain lion. Culturally, the park is rich in archeological and historic sites and the geology is very dynamic. Royalty free music by Kevin MacLeod. Photography by Ken Kramm, copyright May 2010.
